Residents and Motorists in Epe/Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State have appealed to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to speedily complete the phase two of Lekki/Epe Expressway project.
They made the appeal in separate interviews on Monday in Epe.
Phase one of the project ,of about 18.75km spanning Eleko Junction to Epe-T-Junction, has been completed and inaugurated.
The phase two, which is 26.7km spanning Abraham Adesanya Roundabout to Eleko Junction, is yet to be completed.
A motorist, Abdulrazak Olarenwaju, commended the State Government for its efforts at providing good and quality road network for residents, but however, called for speedy delivery of the project to ease the stress commuters go through on the road.
He said, “We will appreciate the speedy completion of the project, to ease vehicular movement in that axis.
“Development comes with its own challenges, the gridlock we are experiencing is affecting our businesses.”
He urged the government to provide an alternative route to ease the stress experienced on the road.
A resident, Mrs Rasheedat Daranijo, decried the slow pace of work at the site of the project.
“I pray that the contractors meet the completion deadline set by the State Governor. The pace of work is slow. I hope they will speed up things to complete the work on schedule,” she said.
Mr Tunde Agbadanla, another resident, expressed satisfaction at the pace of work and commended the State Government for its intervention on the expressway.
He urged motorists and commuters to be patient and cooperate with the Government to deliver the project.
“Nothing good comes easy. Good things, of course, come with pains. We need to endure, I am sure we will enjoy the road after completion,” he said.
Another motorist, Mr Ayobami Adeleke, applauded the development projects of the government and urged the contractor to speed up work on the second phase of the expressway.
He said, “We will all enjoy the road upon completion, but it has not been easy for us, commercial drivers.
“The journey of one hour now takes about three hours due to ongoing construction.
“It is really telling on our businesses, but we know road project will benefit both residents and other road users at the end of the day,” he said.
