Legendary American actress Cicely Tyson dies at 96

Award winning actress and fashion model, Cicely Tyson, has died at the age of 96.

Cicely was first discovered by a photographer and went on to become a very successful fashion model.

In 1951, she made her acting debut in the TV series Frontiers of Faith. She then made her feature film debut in 1956, in the movie, Carib Gold.

Tyson became the first African-American to star in a television drama when she starred in the series East Side/West Side (1963–1964).

In 1972, she was nominated for both the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her work in the film, Sounder.

In 1974, The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman won her two Emmy Awards and a nomination for a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

With over 7 decades in the film industry, Cicely is the epitome of a legend, with three Primetime Emmy Awards, four Black Reel Awards, one Screen Actors Guild Award, one Tony Award, an honorary Academy Award, and a Peabody Award.

In 2015, Cicely was named a Kennedy Centre honoree and in November 2016, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest civilian honour in the United States.

In 2020, she was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.

Nigerian singer Asake on Wednesday headlined the 2024 Afronation concert in Portugal.

Asake, at the opening ceremony, thrilled fans with his hit singles.

He performed the full version of ‘Fuji Extravaganza’ his highly anticipated single, which is expected to be in his upcoming album ‘Lungu Boy.’

Afronation 2024 Portugal will run from June 26–28 at Algarve Portimao in Portugal.

Afro Nation, an annual music concert that celebrates Africans in the diaspora, is considered one of the biggest concerts in the world.

Chivido 2024: Davido, wife jet out of Nigeria after lavish wedding

Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido and his wife, Chioma, have jetted out of Nigeria after their wedding.

In a post via X on Thursday, Davido shared images of the jet, with the caption, “Let’s first launch this one.”

A video was taken of the couple boarding the private jet in Lagos, along with Davido’s team members like Asa Asika, Lati, and Chioma’s manager, Ubi Franklin.

Although the reason and destination of the travel remains unknown, it is believed that the new couple flew out for their honeymoon.

Davido tied the knot with his longtime partner Chioma in a grand ceremony attended by top celebrities and dignitaries.

During the celebration, Davido also surprised Chioma with a car gift and the couple received generous gifts of dollars from their family and friends

CHIVIDO2024: Stars align as Davido, Chioma tie the Knot

The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki and the senator representing the Edo South Senatorial District of Edo State, Daisy Danjuma, has arrived at the venue of the ongoing wedding ceremony between award-winning musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and his partner, Chioma Rowland.

Also present is Nigerian singer, Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, Reggae-dancehall singer, Patroranking, and Skit maker Craze Clown, who are also at the venue.

Their arrival was disclosed in different videos shared on social media on Tuesday.

PUNCH Online reports that Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Oni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, and popular businessman, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly called Obi Cubana are also at the venue of the event in Lagos.

The couple’s wedding has been building up excitement on social media with the hashtag #CHIVIDO2024 since the duo released their pre-wedding photoshoot.
