Kaduna State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Felix Hassan Hyat has called on leaders and stakeholders in Nigeria to ensure they promote peace and unity in their utterances and actions.
Speaking in Kaduna on Friday during a one-day roundtable on religion and politics, he lamented that former governor Nasir El-Rufai could lower himself to raise a sensitive issue that is meant to cause division and hatred among Christians and Muslims in the country.
According to him, “Leaders and stakeholders in this country should see themselves as bridge builders meant to ensure a conducive environment that will foster peace and unity for all Nigerians to go about their legitimate businesses without any problem.
“We should pity ourselves in the country that in spite of the abundance of blessings God has bestowed in the country, only few are enjoying it because of greed and selfishness.”
He urged governor Uba Sani to fear God and do the needful to the people of the state irrespective of their political and religious differences.
“It is only in the spirit of togetherness that we can overcome every challenge, be it security or any other thing.
“Kaduna State needs a leader that has the political will to face the challenges confronting the state squarely without any favouritism for the overall development of the state.
“If what former governor El-Rufai did in terms of his appointments and distribution of resources remains the same, then we are in for it.
“We seriously need a radical departure of what the state experienced in the last eight years of El-Rufai’s administration for the peaceful coexistence and development of the state.”
He explained that the leadership of the state government has an ample opportunity to correct the mistakes of the past by uniting the citizens.
