Lawmakers commence impeachment proceedings for Ondo Deputy Governor

Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly have commenced impeachment proceedings against the State’s Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

At an emergency plenary yesterday, a petition signed by nine lawmakers were presented before the lawmakers.

Majority Leader of the Assembly, Hon Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, moved the motion on the need for the Assembly to abide by Section 188 of the Nigeria Constitution by informing Aiyedatiwa of the ‘gross allegations’ against him.

According to him, “I rise to move a motion of allegation of gross misconduct against the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. I hereby move a motion that this House shall write to the Deputy Governor on the allegations against him.”

A PDP lawmaker, Hon Tope Angbulu, representing Akoko Southwest Constituency II seconded the motion.

Commenting also, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Olamide Olajide said: “The motion has been moved and duly seconded according to section 188 that this House should do the needful on allegations of misconduct against Aiyedatiwa.”

The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House, Benjamin Jaiyeola to write the Deputy Governor on the allegations of gross misconduct levelled against him.

It was gathered the Deputy Governor was being investigated for alleged gross misuse of office, especially allegedly approving N300 million for the purchase of a bulletproof SUV for personal use.

The money was allegedly approved when Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was recuperating in Germany.

A source said Aiyedatiwa ordered the N300 million be sourced from the palliative provided by the Federal government to support poor citizens.

Aiyedatiwa fell out with Governor Akeredolu shortly after the Governor travelled to Ibadan for rest before jetting out for medical vacation that lasted three months.

He was alleged to have begun mobilising some cabinet members to back him in case the Governor did not make it back alive.
