Lawmaker representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Sports, Hon Ekene Abubakar Adams, has described the death of Ibrahim Babangida as a major loss for the good people of Kaduna state.
This is as the Lawmaker in a press statement issued by his Media Office and made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Sunday, said that he is still in great shock to hear about the tragic incident, while appealing to Nigerians to stand by the family in their difficult times.
Recall that Tijjani Babangida, a gold medallist at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games and President of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN), was involved in a devastating car accident on Thursday along the Kaduna-Zaria Road.
The crash claimed the life of his younger brother, Ibrahim Babangida, who has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
Reacting further to the incident, Ekene disclosed that the Babangida’s family has been a good servant of Nigeria, having produced great footballers like Tijani, Haruna and the late Ibrahim Babangida who had represented Nigeria at major tournaments.
He said, “This is a very difficult time for the Babangida family and I want every Nigerian to put them in their prayers because they need all our support now more than ever.”
“The Babangida family have been a good servant to our country producing great football brothers like Tijani, Haruna and the late Ibrahim Babangida who had represented Nigeria at major tournaments like the World cup and Africa Cup of Nations.
“The Death of Ibrahim Babangida is not just a loss to the Country but a major loss to us in Kaduna because himself and his brother Tijani have been very key to developing young talents and grassroot development in the state for many years.”
