The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has disclosed plans to reopen the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal on Thursday, to enhance transportation and foster seamless connectivity for residents.
The General Manager of LASWA, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, said in a statement in Lagos on Tuesday that the terminal was coming back after a temporary closure due to safety concerns.
Emmanuel said that rigorous safety assessments and necessary enhancements had been implemented to ensure well-being of the ferry passengers and boat operators.
“The Ikorodu Ferry Terminal is ready to once again serve as a vital hub for water transportation, providing a convenient and efficient alternative for daily commuters.
“The terminal access and infrastructure are safe for commercial ferry operations.
“Passengers can expect a renewed commitment to safety on the Lagos Inland Waterways, and we appreciate their cooperation during this period.
“The reopening signifies LASWA’s dedication to providing a secure and efficient travel experience for all,” he said.
Emmanuel urged passengers to look forward to a renewed and improved commuting experience, promising the agency’s commitment to efficiency, safety and customer satisfaction.
LASWA had in November 2023 announced the suspension of operations at the Ipakodo ferry terminal in Ikorodu, advising the public to stay off the affected waterways.
The agency announced the opening of alternative routes and urged the public to utilise them for their safety.
