LASWA, others rescue two workers involved in boat fire incident at Falomo

The General Manager, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, has said that a fire incident involving two Lagferry boats (Lateef Jakande, and Mobolaji Johnson) injured two crew members at Falomo terminal on Wednesday.

Emmanuel made the disclosure in a statement in Lagos, saying the incident occurred at about 2 p:m.

He said that the preliminary investigation revealed that the fire began from a fuel tank of one of the boats, which later affected the other boat.

“Two crew members involved in the accident are now in the hospital after sustaining first-degree burns.

“A combined team of Lagos State Waterways Authority, Lagos Fire Service, Marine Police, and Lagferry Staff were able to curtail the inferno and recover the boat’s remains,” Emmanuel said.

He explained that further investigation to explain the circumstances surrounding the incident are still ongoing at the time of this report.

Emmanuel assured Lagos residents of maximum safety standards on waterways.
