LASTMA rescues gas tanker driver after overturn on Oshodi-Apapa expressway

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), alongside other emergency responders, has successfully rescued a driver whose gas tanker overturned at Anthony Oke on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

According to LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the incident occurred while the tanker was heading towards Gbagada. Bakare-Oki stated, “The rescue operation, led by myself and other LASTMA personnel, promptly arrived at the scene, cordoning off the affected area to ensure the safety of road users and nearby residents.”

The driver, who sustained injuries to his hands, was rescued by LASTMA personnel and is currently receiving medical treatment.

In response to the incident, the Lagos State Fire Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Response Unit were mobilised to the site to implement safety measures and mitigate potential hazards.

Bakare-Oki praised the coordinated effort, saying, “Our quick and coordinated response was crucial in containing the situation and preventing further complications.”

He also noted that the evacuation of the tanker and its loaded gas cylinders was completed successfully with the support of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LRU).

Following the operation, vehicular movement towards Gbagada, Iyana-Oworo, Car Wash, Ifako, and Toll Gate has been restored. “The safety of our citizens remains our top priority, and we are grateful for the cooperation of everyone involved,” Bakare-Oki added.

He explained that their quick and coordinated response helped in containing the situation and preventing further complications.

Bakare-Oki added that LASTMA personnel with the support of LRU had successfully evacuated the tanker and its loaded gas cylinder from the road.
