LASIMRA vows strict action against unsafe telecom cables in Lekki

By Sodiq Adelakun

The Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA), has said it will take stringent action against unsafe, sagging, and drooping telecommunication cables within the Lekki area.

In a recent statement, LASIMRA identified specific zones such as Lekki 1 & 2, Ikate, and surrounding environs for targeted intervention.

Stressing the importance of this enforcement initiative, LASIMRA emphasised its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of residents and preserving the integrity of critical infrastructure.

“This enforcement effort is critical to ensuring the safety of residents and maintaining the integrity of our infrastructure,” LASIMRA said.

“It is imperative that all Telco companies operating in the Lekki axis take immediate action to address any instances of sagging or dropped down cables within their respective networks.

LASIMRA noted that failure to comply with the enforcement measures may result in penalties and other regulatory actions.

It, however, urged telcos to prioritise the inspection of cables to avoid disruptions to services and potential liabilities.

“Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated. Please ensure that your teams are fully informed and prepared to participate in this enforcement initiative,” it added.
