The Lagos State Government has expressed its readiness to partner with the School of Transport, Lagos State University (LASU), to tackle traffic management and transportation challenges.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde said this when a top delegation of the school paid him a courtesy visit.
Speaking to the delegation, he urged Academia to raise the bar and take the study of transportation deeper and higher by coming up with solutions peculiar to the State.
Oladeinde explained that Lagos State Transport policy will be unveiled by the end of the year in line with the THEMES Agenda of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration.
According to him, agencies under the Ministry of Transportation will work together with the school to effectively transform the sector.
In a similar vein, the Dean of the School of Transport, (LASU), Professor Charles Asenime noted that the key mandate of the School is to synergize the activity of both the Ministry and School to provide skilled and professional manpower to combat the Lagos State transportation problems effectively.
While lauding the Commissioner on his efforts in the sector, Professor Odewunmi stressed that the problems confronting the transport sector needs to be solved at a consistent level.
The former Permanent Secretary, Dr. Taiwo Salaam Ministry of Transportation and Head of Department, Transport technology and Infrastructure, suggested that a budget be provided for the School to act on the aforementioned action points.
Also, that students of the School of Transport be tutored on professional driving and issued certification by Lagos State driver’s institute upon graduation.
He stressed that the Ministry should create room to accommodate and engage the transport professionals being groomed by the school.
This, he said will be possible by pushing for Transportation Cadre to cover all the various aspects of the sector ranging from Tech and Infrastructure to policymaking and research.
Salaam added that the School is moving towards research and innovation.
In response to the suggestions and requests made by the delegation, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Kamar Olowoshago assured that the Ministry will consolidate and integrate all proposed ideas presented by the School of Transport.
Olowoshago also said that the Ministry will provide relevant Infrastructure that will improve learning and innovation for the good of the sector.
