The Lagos State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) to bring the ambitious Green Line Metro project to life.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made the announcement on Thursday on his official X, formerly Twitter, handle highlighting the transformative potential of the project.
According to the Sanwo-Olu, the 68km rail line will run from Lekki Free Zone to Marina, connecting with the Blue Line at Marina and linking key areas like Victoria Island, Lekki, Ajah, and more.
The new line is projected to carry over 500,000 passengers daily at launch, rising to over a million as demand grows.
“We are building a city that works. The Green Line will redefine public transport in Lagos, complementing our existing rail lines, including the Red Line, which has already begun partial operations.
“The success of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line, which has served 2 million passengers in its first year, demonstrates the city’s readiness for more. We are ready for the future.
“The impact of these rail lines goes beyond transportation, serving as catalysts for economic growth, connecting communities, reducing travel times, and enhancing the quality of life for millions,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude to President @officialABAT for his unwavering support and complete endorsement of the project.
