LASG refunds 145 subscribers for Egan-Igando housing scheme

The Lagos State Government has refunded 145 subscribers to the Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Estate following their indication to opt out of the housing scheme.

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Housing, Mr Abdulhafis Toriola, confirmed this in a statement issued by Mr Adesile Rufai, the Chief Public Affairs Officer, Ministry of Housing, on Monday in Lagos.

Toriola said that reasons for the delay was because the completion of the estate faced issues such as bureaucracy and vandalism.

He added those who previously subscribed and paid in full, but no longer interested in the house, could apply for a refund.

Toriola said that those who applied for a refund but were yet to be paid to visit the Ministry with their original payment documents.

He noted that a police report and a declaration of loss should be provided in the case of lost documents.

According to him, the ministry is checking applications with questionable documents.

He emphasised that priority would be given to those who paid in full to get their houses first, saying others with partial payments can choose to complete the payment or get a refund.

Toriola noted that more housing units were underway, with 576 homes expected to be finished by March 2025.

He assured that the government would hold more meetings to ensure all genuine subscribers are satisfied.

Toriola assured the people of the state government’s commitment to providing affordable housing for its citizens.
