The Lagos State Government has promised to provide decent and affordable housing for workers noting that they need good accommodation in a conducive environment to enable discharge their duty competently.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Mr. Kamar Olowoshago, disclosed this in a statement issued at recent joint inspection of 36-housing units comprising two and three bedroom apartments located at LagosHOMS LASU, OJo Campus, Lagos.
He observed that housing is an essential need, adding that to ensure workers are in a position to give their best, government must attach importance to provision of decent homes for its workforce.
Olowoshago explained that providing access to good accommodation in a conducive environment in a highly urbanised area like Lagos is challenging. He, nonetheless, reiterated government commitment to attend to the needs.
He stated, “It is for the reason that the state government intentionally allocates a certain percentage of its subsidised homes to workers and gives rebate to increase accessibility.”
The LagosHOMS LASU project is a promise kept to the university community as part of its deliberate policy to cater to the welfare of personnel.”
He asserted that continuity in governance would enable government to further consolidate on its comprehensive housing policy, which is meant for the working class and the underserved.
The Permanent Secretary charged the university community to ownership of the project, safeguard it and put it to good use when completed.
In his remark, the Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration for his efforts in making the welfare of staff and students of the university a priority.
