LASG demolishes shrine constructed near main road

The Lagos State government on Thursday has demolished a shrine constructed near a main road in the Iyana Ipaja area, citing environmental concerns and sanitation reasons.

The shrine was removed by the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, according to the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.

Wahab stated that the shrine was constructed despite several stop-work notices being served, and that personnel from the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency were physically assaulted.

He warned that the government would prosecute anyone found constituting an environmental nuisance on state parks and gardens.

The demolition of the shrine is part of the government’s efforts to maintain environmental order and sanitation in the state.

The government has also warned the public to desist from constructing any structure that could constitute an environmental nuisance.

In a statement, Wahab said, “The Lagos State government is again warning everyone to desist from constituting any form of environmental nuisance on state parks and gardens, as this will be met with prosecution.”
