LASG clears Ajah roadside traders

By Esther Agbo

The Lagos State Government has cleared illegal occupants in the Ajah area, primarily targeting roadside traders. Photos shared by Tokunbo Wahab, the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, showed the operation in progress.

Wahab posted on X (formerly Twitter), “The operatives of Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps earlier today (Wednesday) carried out an enforcement operation around Wesley Church, Opposite Eleganza, Ajah.”

He explained that this action was part of efforts to maintain a cleaner Lagos and uphold zero tolerance for illegal activities.

In a subsequent update, Wahab mentioned that the ministry’s officials have started dredging a channel in the Eti Osa area to prevent flooding as the rainy season intensifies.

Wahab wrote, “Operatives of the Drainage Maintenance Department from the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources @LasgMOE (were) at work on Monday dredging and cleaning the Ajiran channel in Eti Osa Local Government Area to prevent flooding.”

Last month, authorities also cleared shanties and removed illegal occupants from the Ikoyi Towers after a 48-hour vacation notice had expired, Wahab added. The operation was carried out by a joint team from LAGESC and the Special Task Force on Environmental Offences.
