LaLiga: Xavi to stay at Barcelona in shock u-turn

Barcelona manager, Xavi Hernandez, could make a shock U-turn and stay at the LaLiga club, as he is seeking specific “project guarantees” from president Joan Laporta to stay on beyond the summer.

In January, Xavi announced that he would be leaving Barca at the end of this summer.

The 44-year-old described the job as “cruel” and expressed concerns over his mental well-being.

However, amid an 11-match unbeaten run, which has seen Barcelona qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals, support for retaining Xavi has been gaining momentum in the boardroom.

Laporta has expressed his desire to persuade Xavi to continue in charge and his sentiments have been echoed by vice-president Rafa Yuste.

But according to Sport, Xavi is seeking specific assurances regarding the club’s long-term project from Laporta and the rest of the board.

The former Spain midfielder wants a well-chalked-out transfer shortlist with players who can be brought on board keeping in mind the financial issues of the club. He is unwilling to reach out to potential targets just for the sake of it and end up empty-handed.
