Laju Iren aims high with N250m ticket sales for virtual cinema

For Laju Iren, a Director and film-maker, the sky is only the starting point as she undertakes an ambitious move to rake in N250 million in ticket sales for her RomCom debuting this Easter.

Laju Iren has always dared to embark on what was termed impossible beginning with the introduction of a virtual cinema which has never been done before.

In 2022, the independent filmmaker blazed the trail with the first virtual paid premiere, selling directly to consumers and raising twelve million naira with their first feature film, Loving Amanda, before it was licensed to prime video.

“It was a surreal experience, especially as newcomers in the industry, to employ such a mode of distribution that has never been done before for our first feature film and see considerable success,” the author turned filmmaker said in a press release. “But it remains absolutely necessary to continue to find ingenious ways to democratise the film distribution process, while remaining empowered to tell inspiring stories like ours.”

In an ambitious attempt to sell at least 50,000 tickets and raise N250 million in sales, it’s go big or go home. Iren says, they are not going home. “This time, it’s much bigger, and much better. We’re taking no prisoners as we move into uncharted territories. We have given 1,000 percent to the film, we are leaving no stone unturned regarding the viewing experience, and our audience is excited to support us on this adventure. This is a story everyone needs to watch, and we are confident that anyone who loves quality entertainment will pay to see this,” she added.

This Easter, her company Laju Iren Films is set to release her new film, Mistakenly Yours, this Easter.

According to Laju, the faith based, romantic comedy, directed by Biodun Stephen will be released via virtual cinema, giving viewers an opportunity to purchase tickets and watch from anywhere in the world, during the Easter season.

Unlike physical cinemas, where the audience need to step out of the comfort of their homes to watch, viewers can watch Mistakenly Yours from anywhere in the world during the Easter season as long as they purchase tickets beforehand at mistakenlyyours.com.  Also unlike traditional streaming platforms, viewers can watch the movie on a dedicated online platform for a limited time only; within the Easter period, from Good Friday, March 29th, to Easter Monday, April 1st. Tickets can be purchased from February 1st at mistakenlyours.com.

From the Award winning director of Breaded Life, and Sista, and starring Stan Nze, Chinonso Arubayi, Tomike Adeoye, Olumide Oworu, Omotunde Adebowale-David (Lolo 1), Jude Chukwuka, among others, Mistakenly Yours follows the story of a beautiful filmmaker with a promising future and a clergy man with a dark past, who are forced into an engagement of convenience to fulfil their goals, but ultimately find themselves on a different, more fulfilling, albeit surprising trajectory of love and redemption.
