Lagosian faces life imprisonment over rape of 8-year-old girl

A 42-year-old man, Festus Nwaegela has been remanded in Kirikiri Prison custody by the Ikeja Magistrate Court on Tuesday for raping an eight-year-old girl.

He was ordered to be kept at the facility by Chief magistrate O. A Layinka pending advice from the director of public prosecutions.

The magistrate adjourned the case until April 2 for mention.

The prosecutor, Lucky Ihieme, told the court that the suspect committed the offence on December 18, 2023, at Tejuosho Federal Road, Ebute Metta.

Mr Ihieme alleged that the defendant sexually assaulted the minor by penetrating her anus. The alleged offence contravenes section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant risks life imprisonment if found guilty of the offence.
