Lagos women eye N20m top prize in national farming contest
The Office of the First Lady of Lagos State has selected 200 participants to compete in the “Every Home A Garden” nationwide farming competition for female first-time farmers. The winner will receive a N20 million prize.
Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, First Lady of Lagos State, on Thursday, expressed confidence that Lagos would emerge victorious, saying, “We are being prepared like a boy scout for this competition, and we know we are going to emerge victorious.”
The competition, initiated by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, aims to promote home farming and provide relief to many Nigerians amidst soaring food prices.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of home gardening, saying, “The level of interest expressed by applicants reflects the strong interest of women in Lagos State in the ‘Every Home, A Garden’ initiative, despite the challenge of limited land space.”
The competition will culminate in December, with the final winner announced from among the 36 states.
Sanwo-Olu assured that Lagos State will provide consolation prizes for each of the 200 first-time farmers and 50 experienced participants.
