Lagos unveils new EMS agency to transform emergency medical response
The Lagos State Government is set to revolutionise its emergency healthcare delivery with the launch of a new Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agency. Approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the initiative is spearheaded by the Office of Transformation, Creativity, and Innovation (OTCI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
According to OTCI, the new agency will transform the existing EMS department into a powerful and coordinated system using a comprehensive corporate planning model for effective statewide service delivery.
The primary goals are to reduce emergency response times, enhance patient care quality, and lower mortality rates.
The agency will leverage modern technology and forge strategic partnerships to raise the standard of emergency medical care, especially in underserved and remote areas.
“We are thrilled to embark on this landmark collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
“This new EMS agency represents a giant leap in improving healthcare outcomes for Lagosians,” said Mrs. Toyin Anjous Ademuyiwa, Director-General of OTCI.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health praised the professionalism of the OTCI team and expressed confidence in the success of the initiative.
The agency’s key improvements will include system streamlining, wider service coverage, and enhanced training and capacity-building programs for emergency responders.
