Two men, Taofeek Saminu and Ikechukwu Iloh, appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday, accused of stealing 10 pieces of catalyst worth N1.9 million.

The defendants, aged 35 and 41 respectively, faced charges of conspiracy and stealing, to which they pleaded not guilty.

The court heard from the prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, that the alleged crimes took place on December 6 at around midnight at No. 3, Adifat Yusuf Street in Ijegun, Lagos State. Aigbokhan stated that Saminu, Iloh, and others who remain at large, stole the catalyst from the complainant, Mr. David Kalu.

Aigbokhan said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo, granted each of the defendants bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until Jan. 16, 2024, for mention.
