Lagos teacher arrested for slapping 3-year-old pupil

A teacher, Stella Nwadigo, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command following a viral video showing her slapping a three-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael, at Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu.

The video, which quickly gained traction online, depicted Nwadigo physically assaulting the toddler in the classroom.

In response, the Lagos State Police confirmed her arrest on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, stated on his verified X, formerly Twitter, account on Wednesday, “The teacher has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing investigation. Further necessary actions will follow to ensure justice is served.”

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) also confirmed the arrest, expressing its commitment to protecting the welfare of children in educational settings.

“We are pleased to inform the public that the teacher in question has been arrested, and an investigation has commenced in earnest,” the agency said via its official X, formerly Twitter, account.

The DSVA said that institutions of learning should be safe, nurturing environments for children, and underscored the Lagos State Government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of all children.

“The Lagos State Government remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of every child by enforcing strict regulations, holding offenders accountable, and working with stakeholders to promote a zero-tolerance policy for abuse in any form,” the agency added.
