The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has reported a total of 1,367 emergency incidents across the state between January and October 2024.
According to the agency, truck-related incidents dominated the emergency categories, with 432 cases recorded, including 297 truck accidents, 7 fallen containers, and 110 breakdowns.
In its monthly breakdown, LASEMA revealed that February saw the highest number of emergency incidents, with 156 cases.
The second-highest category of incidents was road accidents, totaling 354 incidents, including 334 vehicle accidents and 18 breakdowns. Fire disasters followed closely with 228 incidents, including 211 fire outbreaks and several tanker and vehicle fires.
A further analysis of October’s emergencies revealed that road accidents remained the highest category, with 50 vehicle incidents, followed by 43 truck-related emergencies, and 20 medical emergencies. Fire incidents accounted for 17 cases, including one involving a burnt vehicle.
The data also highlighted the areas with the most emergencies, with Alimosho Local Government Area (LGA) recording the highest number of incidents at 220, followed by Ikeja with 149 and Oshodi/Isolo LGA with 114 incidents. Badagry LGA reported the lowest, with just 3 incidents.
LASEMA’s report underscores the ongoing challenges of managing road safety and emergency preparedness in Lagos, particularly with the high number of truck-related incidents affecting traffic and safety across the state.
