Lagos: Police arrest two motorcycle robbery suspectThe Police Command in Lagos State, says it has arrested two motorcycle robbery suspects operating around Ikoyi Area, and on the trail of some now at large.
The Spokesman for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday.
Hundeyin said that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), arrested the two suspects, whose names were not given, on Monday at about 11.00 a.m., at Park View Estate, Ikoyi, and recovered a motorcycle.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects boarded the motorcycle from Obalande to Parkview Estate, where one suspect, who is at large, was waiting for them.
“On arriving at the destination, one of the suspects hit the motorcyclist on the head with a wheel spanner, and dispossessed him of his motorcycle.
“People around the area, who witnessed the incident, raised an alarm which drew the attention of the RRS officers on patrol in the area, and they were arrested,” he said.
The spokesman said that the suspects confessed to have stolen many motorcycles using the same method, and sold them at N150,000 each.
Hundeyin said that Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi, had directed the Commander RRS, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, to transfer the suspects and exhibits to the CP’s Special Squad for further investigation.
He said the CP’s special Squad would ensure that the fleeing gang member and those receiving the stolen motorcycles were arrested and subsequently prosecuted.
