Lagos partners Ufuk Dialogue on healthcare, poverty eradication

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says the government is committed to the partnership with Ufuk Dialogue toward eradicating poverty and promoting  peaceful coexistence in the state.

The governor gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the management team of UFUK Dialogue,  led by its  President, Mr Ahmet Omeroglu, at Alausa, Ikeja on Thursday.

It was reported that UFUK Dialogue is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO)  geared toward the promotion of dialogue and a culture of co-existence.

Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamza, urged the NGO to link up with the Ministry of  Health and other government agencies to enable the citizens feel their impact.

The governor also called for better collaboration in order to have more positive impact in the society.

He urged the NGO to continue to focus on its core values of eliminating ignorance via establishment of schools, offering free medical services and surgeries and promoting peace by establishing conflict resolution centres.

Sanwo-Olu said “though the state is limited and small in land size, it takes care of 10  per cent of the country’s population.”

He added that the creation of schools and granting of scholarships to the less privileged would help in eliminating ignorance which was aiding terrorism.

Earlier in his remarks, Omeroglu said the organisation had a mission to reduce hardship in the country by helping the needy through the provision of free education, scholarships, free medical care, free cataract surgeries and medications and establishment of conflict resolution centres in different states.

According to him, the NGO has established medical missions in different parts of the country; 17 in Kano, three in Kaduna and three  in Lagos.

He  said that over 5000 students had graduated from their established schools located in six  states across the country.

He noted that the dialogue centres were established by the group to settle disputes among Nigerians and ensure harmony and peaceful coexistence in the country.
