Lagos partners LASEMA, HEFAMAA to develop emergency response protocols
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has partnered with the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) to develop and implement emergency preparedness and response protocols for healthcare facilities across the state.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stated that despite paramedics’ efforts to save lives during emergencies, their efforts are sometimes hindered by delays in locating available hospital bed spaces or difficulties in providing timely, definitive care. He emphasised the need for swift and effective healthcare responses to address the increasing natural and man-made disasters.
Oke-Osanyintolu highlighted that the role of hospitals or clinics in providing timely care to emergency victims cannot be overstated. He stressed that governments and health agencies must collaborate to mitigate disaster risks by establishing protocols that ensure prompt and efficient emergency responses at healthcare facilities.
LASEMA and HEFAMAA aim to work with public and private healthcare providers in Lagos State to develop and implement emergency preparedness and response guidelines/protocols. This collaboration seeks to achieve prompt hospital care for emergency victims in the state.
Oke-Osanyintolu emphasised that improving emergency response protocols in healthcare is not just a logistical challenge, but a moral imperative. He urged collective efforts to implement these protocols, protect communities, and ensure healthcare facilities stand ready to serve in times of need.
The partnership between LASEMA and HEFAMAA demonstrates Lagos State’s commitment to enhancing its emergency response capabilities and prioritising the well-being of its citizens.
