Lagos: LP suspends lawmaker for three months over disciplinary issue

The Labour Party’s Ojo Chapter in Lagos has suspended Mr. Seyi Sowunmi, the representative of Ojo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, for a period of three months.

This suspension, announced on Wednesday, follows Sowunmi’s failure to comply with a summons issued by the party’s disciplinary committee.

According to a statement released by Mr. Oluwanifemi Elegbede, Chairman of the Ojo Labour Party, and Mrs. Blessing Okafor, Secretary, Sowunmi was required to appear before the disciplinary panel within 24 hours of the summons dated August 26, 2024. Sowunmi’s non-response and lack of attendance were deemed insubordinate and in violation of party regulations.

The statement outlined that Sowunmi’s actions were considered a breach of several party rules, including his failure to attend ward meetings, claims of non-registration in specific party wards, and attempts to remove party leadership without following established procedures.

Additionally, the statement criticised Sowunmi for taking legal action against the party instead of resolving disputes through internal mechanisms.

The suspension is effective immediately and reflects the party’s response to Sowunmi’s alleged disregard for party protocols and leadership
