Lagos lawmaker provides 750 free eyeglasses, 50 cataract surgeries for constituents

Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji, member representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 01, has sponsored a three-day medical outreach, providing 750 free eyeglasses and 50 cataract surgeries to improve eye health and enhance the quality of life for his constituents.

The outreach, which began on Thursday at the Constituency’s Unity Centre office, aims to provide comprehensive eye care services, including eye examinations, medical glasses, and cataract surgeries for residents in need.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Adedeji emphasized the importance of vision health, stating, “Clear vision is crucial for every aspect of life, from education to daily tasks. By providing these glasses and surgeries, we aim to enhance the quality of life for our people.”

Initially, the programme was set to provide free cataract surgery for 20 people, but due to the turnout and feedback from ophthalmologists, the number was increased to 50.

Those in need of corrective lenses received glasses on the spot, while individuals with cataracts were scheduled for surgery. Medications for various eye conditions were also distributed to ensure continued eye health.

Beneficiaries of the eyeglasses and surgery expressed their gratitude to the legislator for the programme.

Mrs. Tinu, a recipient of the free cataract surgery, said, “I had been struggling with my vision for years and couldn’t afford the surgery. This programme has given me a new lease of life.”
