Lagos launches E-Call up system to alleviate truck traffic in Lekki-Epe

The Lagos State government has officially launched the E-Call Up System to manage truck movements and reduce traffic congestion in the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone corridor.

The initiative was unveiled on Monday, September 23, 2024, and is designed to optimise logistics operations in the region.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced the launch via his official social media account, highlighting that the E-Call Up System is a “sustainable, technology-driven solution” intended to improve truck scheduling and coordination.

He stated, “To avert severe congestion caused by articulated trucks and improve the efficiency of logistics operations within the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone corridor, the Lagos State Government has commenced the E-Call Up System.”

This system aims to significantly reduce wait times for trucks, facilitate smoother traffic flow, and enhance overall economic activities by improving access to jobs and services in the area.

Osiyemi emphasised, “The E-Call Up system is a sustainable, effective, and technology-driven solution for truck movement in the Lekki-Epe corridor.”

Originally scheduled for rollout on August 1, 2024, the launch was postponed to ensure a seamless implementation.

The E-Call Up System will regulate truck movements through five designated holding parks: Hog Marketing Limited in Okorisan, Nilmage Two4Seven in Poka, Goldspeed Freight Agency opposite Dangote Refinery, Diamond Star Ports and Terminal in Abule Panu, and Tal Concept at HFP Brick Industry along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

To further mitigate congestion, the government will enforce a ban on truck movements during peak hours—from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.—with compliance monitored by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Taskforce, and the Police.
