Lagos Judiciary honours late Chief Magistrate Ogunkanmi
The Lagos State Judiciary recently paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Chief Magistrate Eniola Olusanmi Ogunkanmi in a solemn valedictory court session held at the Ikeja High Court.
The ceremony, presided over by the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Honourable Justice Kazeem Alogba, attracted legal professionals, members of the judiciary, family, and well-wishers, all gathered to celebrate the distinguished career of a judicial officer whose legacy endures.
Justice Alogba, in his tribute, praised Magistrate Ogunkanmi for his courageous and principled approach to law.
“Magistrate Ogunkanmi was a beacon of integrity, diligence, and unwavering commitment to justice,” said the Chief Judge, noting the profound impact the late magistrate had on the Lagos State Judiciary.
“His contributions will forever be etched in the annals of our legal system,” he added.
Born on December 19, 1966, in Lagos, Ogunkanmi’s career spanned over two decades, marked by a strong commitment to the rule of law and legal excellence.
After obtaining his LL.B from Lagos State University in 1990 and being called to the Nigerian Bar in 1991, he began his legal journey at Lambo & Lambo and Mark & Company. His judicial career took off in 2001 when he was appointed as Magistrate Grade II.
Over the years, Ogunkanmi ascended the judicial ranks, becoming Chief Magistrate (Administration) and Head of the Department of Litigation at the Lagos State Judiciary (Ikeja) in September 2024.
In a moving address, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN), the Attorney-General & Commissioner for Justice, who was represented by Olamide Ibrahim, described the late Ogunkanmi as an exemplary figure who excelled not only in the secular domain but also in his spiritual life.
“Magistrate Ogunkanmi’s legacy is a testament to his exceptional integrity and commitment to upholding justice, both in the court and in his personal life,” Ibrahim said.
Throughout his career, Magistrate Ogunkanmi earned a reputation for fairness, legal acumen, and a deep respect for the law.
His contributions to the judiciary have left an indelible mark on the legal landscape in Lagos, and the tributes poured in from colleagues and loved ones reflected the high regard in which he was held
