Lagos Govt impounds 241 unregistered vehicles in major enforcement operation
…Reinforces commitment to road safety and legal compliance
The Lagos State Government has successfully impounded 241 unlicensed vehicles in a recent enforcement operation conducted by the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS).
This action is part of a broader initiative to uphold the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL) of 2018.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, made this known in a statement signed by Mrs Bolanle Ogunlola, the Deputy Director of Public Affairs, of the ministry, on Monday.
He emphasised the importance of vehicle registration, noting that unregistered vehicles complicate law enforcement efforts, particularly in tracking stolen vehicles or those connected to criminal activities.
“In accordance with Sections 15 and 16 of the TSRL, driving without proper registration or valid identification marks is a legal offence,” Osiyemi stated.
He also reported that a fake dealer number plate was discovered on one of the impounded vehicles, prompting an investigation into the matter.
The Commissioner urged all motorists to comply with traffic regulations, assuring that adherence will enhance safety on the roads and facilitate a secure environment for all users.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that only registered vehicles operate within the state.
