…Partners with DISCOs for statewide metering

The Lagos State Government has taken a significant step towards ensuring universal access to energy for all residents, with the approval of the procurement and installation of 20,000 prepaid energy meters for target low-income communities.
This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, at a press briefing on Wednesday, marking the first year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.
According to the Commissioner, the approval has been expanded to utilise funding to catalyse full metering across the state through collaborations with Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in Lagos and a leading smart metering solution company, ElSewedy Electric.
He said, “The Governor has approved procurement and installation of Twenty thousand (20,000) Units of Prepaid Energy Meters for target low-income Communities in Lagos.
“The Approval was further expanded to utilise funding to catalyse full metering across the State via collaborations with Electricity Distribution Companies in Lagos and a least smart metering solution Company, ElSewedy Electric.”
He also said the State Government has taken steps towards enhancing the reliability of its energy infrastructure with the deployment of a robust and integrated Modern Power System Monitoring Tool-Operations Command Centre.
Reiterating that the cutting-edge technology enables real-time live monitoring of critical energy infrastructure across the state, ensuring informed decision making through effective supervision, control, and management.
Ogunleye revealed that the pilot deployment of the system has been successfully implemented, and the full scope of the project is currently being rolled out.
“The State is deploying a robust and integrated Modern Power System Monitoring Tool-Operations Command Centre, an interface for real-time live monitoring of critical energy infrastructure in the State to ensure reliability and informed decision making through effective supervision, control and management.”
