A tragic gas explosion at a gas retail shop in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, has claimed the lives of at least two individuals, with three others sustaining severe injuries.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident through a post on his official handle on Wednesday.

The explosion, which occurred on Tuesday at Abule Pan along the Lekki Epe Expressway in the Ibeju Lekki area, resulted in the destruction of approximately four shops.

The authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion as the community mourns the loss and supports those injured in the tragic event.

The post reads, “It is just a week and we have recorded another gas explosion at a gas retail shop, this time in Ibeju-Lekki.

“Sadly, two persons died, three persons sustained injuries and four shops got razed. Let us prevent avoidable deaths. Let us be safety-conscious at all times!”

This incident follows closely on the heels of another gas explosion in the state just one week ago, which resulted in significant property damage.

Recall that on May 1, a pregnant woman and 21 others suffered injuries of varying severity in a gas explosion at the Alayabiagba community in the Ajegunle-Apapa area of Lagos State.
