The Lagos State Government has announced that food transactions worth N2.81 billion have taken place at the Lagos Food Hub in Idi-Oro, Mushin since its inception in 2023.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing to commemorate the sixth year of the Sanwo-Olu/Hamzat administration.
Olusanya revealed that three additional food hubs are under construction in Agege, Abijo, and Opebi to support the existing one in Mushin. She also highlighted the Lagos Central Food Systems and Logistics Hub in Epe, which spans 400 hectares and is currently in its first phase of development. Once completed, it is expected to process, store, and distribute over 1.5 million metric tonnes of food annually.
According to the Commissioner, the central food system will play a critical role in ensuring food security for over 10 million residents, with the capacity to maintain food supply for at least 90 days in times of scarcity. It is also projected to reduce food prices by up to 50% and create over five million income opportunities across the agricultural and logistics value chains.
Highlighting other achievements, Olusanya noted that over 100,500 farmers and fishermen have been trained in modern techniques, while infrastructure projects have delivered 13km of farm roads, six jetties, and 15 cottage processing centers under the APPEALS and Lagos Cares initiatives, in partnership with the World Bank.
The state government has also supported 151,595 agri-businesses with inputs, tools, grants, and advisory services. Additionally, 26 young agripreneurs received N100 million in cash grants to grow their enterprises. Food subsidy programs have benefited over 800,000 vulnerable households, while 1.28 million households have received food support through food bank initiatives.
Olusanya praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration for transforming Lagos’ agricultural sector and building a resilient foundation for a food-secure future.
