Lagos First Lady visits correctional centres to strengthen fight against drug abuse

In her continued commitment to curbing drug abuse in Lagos State, the First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Claudiana Sanwo-Olu, visited the Correctional Centre for Senior Boys and the Rehabilitation and Vocational Training Centre in Isheri on Tuesday.
The visit was part of the state’s broader initiative to tackle the growing drug abuse crisis, particularly among the youth.
During the visit, Dr. Sanwo-Olu was received by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Pharm (Mrs) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu.
The officials briefed the First Lady on various rehabilitation programs previously carried out by the Ministry, highlighting the success stories achieved within the state-owned facilities.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu expressed hope that the rehabilitants could successfully reintegrate into society, despite the challenges of long-term rehabilitation. She pledged to provide the necessary support to ensure the effectiveness of the Ministry’s programs in combating drug abuse.
“I am hopeful that with sustained effort, these young individuals will be reintegrated into society as responsible citizens, and I promise to support the Ministry to make that a reality,” Dr. Sanwo-Olu said.
She commended the Ministry for its ongoing efforts and called for a strengthened partnership between her office and the Ministry to achieve even greater outcomes in the war against drug abuse.
