The Lagos State government has intensified its efforts to eradicate open defecation, arresting 20 individuals caught in the act.
This move is part of the government’s broader efforts to maintain a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for residents.
The state Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the crackdown in a statement on Sunday.
“Open Defecation, During patrol and monitoring of Ojodu – Berger yesterday night and early hours of today, operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial arrested 20 individuals for committing environmental infractions,” he wrote.
The government’s zero-tolerance stance on open defecation is part of its efforts to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.
The state has set up a special squad to tackle open defecation at Berger and has continued its cleanup efforts, setting up a task force to arrest offenders.
According to Wahab, the arrested individuals were caught during a patrol and monitoring exercise in Ojodu-Berger.
He emphasised that the government would not tolerate any environmental infractions, including open defecation.
The Lagos State government has urged residents to cooperate with the government in its efforts to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment.
The government has also set up a mobile court to prosecute offenders.
