Lagos CP deploys 100 Special Constables across Lagos, charge Police  on efficient service delivery

The Lagos State Commissioner of police CP Hakeem Odumosu has deployed newly trained special constables  across one hundred and ten Division police Headquarters in Lagos.

The deployment  activities which took place yesterday at  the command headquarters Ikeja, was corroborated with lectures, focused on in-depth exposition on  the ethics, nuances, and standard operating  procedural  demand  of the newly inducted special constables.

In a statement by Lagos State Police Spokesperson CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi made available to Nigerian NewsDirect, the Commissioner of Police CP Hakeem Odumosu, mentioned that the special constables were drawn across local government councils in Lagos State with aim of effectively  policing the state.

The Police boss emphasized the need for the newly commissioned Special Constables to work with the rank and file of the police force  especially the DPOs  in their respective communities.

Odumosu  hinted that their roles include intelligence gathering, traffic control, joint patrol with the police, and any other duties that their DPOs might deem necessary.

He  read out riot acts to them on the dos and donts  of the police, warning  them to desist from any act that is illegal and detrimental to the image of the police and capable of jeopardising the purpose for which Community Policing was established.

“You are no longer  raw civilians but refined and trained individuals who are liable and responsible for your actions and inactions as  you will be treated according to the provisions of the Nigeria Police Act and Regulations.”

He admonished them to shun misuse of power, extortion, abuse of office, violation of human rights and any inappropriate behaviours contrary to the provisions of the extant laws of the Country.

In another development, CP Hakeem Odumosu addressed the DPOs and HODs on the need to improve the strategy and solidify the security architecture of the the state.

He briefed them on the deployment of the Special Constables and their duties in their various formations, charging  them to supervise the men and work towards having better policing of their areas and the state at large.

Odumosu seized the opportunity to re-echo the comnand’s zero tolerance for violation of COVID-19 protocols in the state, and ordered due enforcement of all COVID-19 protocols and other laws in Lagos State.
