Mr. Wasiu Adesina, the Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government in Lagos State, on Saturday began the construction of drainage system at Itundomigoran community.
Adesina said at the ceremony that the drainage system would ensure ease movement of water to prevent flooding that had been a major challenge in the community.
Newsmen report that the drainage has a completion period of four month.
”This is the longest drainage system construction project since this administration has started; although, it is not the first project my administration has done so far in this community.
”The Itundomigoran drainage system is very important because it will make the road motorable, especially during rainy season.
”One of the priorities of this administration is construction and rehabilitation of roads; drainage system, provision of pipe borne water, electrification and empowerment programme.
”This project will be completed in four months but with the support of people in the community it may be completed earlier than scheduled,” he said.
Adesina said that the project was in fulfilment of a promise he made during his election campaign and also as dividend of democracy to the community.
The council boss said the project would be handed over to the Community Development Association upon completion.
”This drainage is going to be covered and also as walkways to alleviate sufferings caused by flood in the area.
”Apart from the drainage system, we also plan to build k-clamp market, installation of street lights and construction of bore water in the community.
”Very soon my administration will embark on construction of some roads like Dada street, Kokoro Abu road, Solomade road and empowerment of widows and the aged in Ikorodu.
”We will also continue our loan scheme to market men and women in Ikorodu Central,” he said.
Adesina, however, enjoined the community to ensure prompt payment of taxes and to vote for the candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) from Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as president to the rest of them at the state level for more dividends of democracy.
Mr. Omotayo Awolesi, who spoke on behalf of the residents, expressed satisfaction at the council’s kind gesture.
Awolesi urged them to desist from using the drainage system as a refuse dump.
He also promised to ensure adequate monitoring and maintenance of the project after completion.
”We thank the Chairman for the construction of the drainage, as a listening boss, we are Oliver Twist, we still need more attention in our community,” he said.
