Lagos computer village traders threaten to sue Tinubu’s daughter Iyaloja Folasade for contempt of court

The Incorporated Trustees of Computer Village Market Traders and Stakeholders Joint Management in Lagos have warned Chief Mrs. Folasade Tinubu-Ojo to stop interfering in market affairs, referencing a Lagos State High Court ruling from December 8, 2020. This ruling forbids her and her agents from collecting levies from market members.

In a pre-action notice dated August 28, 2024, the traders, through Falana & Falana’s Chambers, reminded Mrs. Tinubu-Ojo of the court’s permanent injunction against her. The notice accuses her of multiple violations, including using thugs and collecting unauthorized levies, and demands compliance with the court’s decision.

The notice, signed by Taiwo E. Olawanle and Adebayo A. Oniyelu, states that further non-compliance will lead to legal action and claims for costs. It highlights that Mrs. Tinubu-Ojo, acting as Iyaloja General, has no legal basis to interfere in the market’s operations or collect levies, and notes that her authority under the Lagos State Market Advisory Council Law does not extend to such actions.

A judgment from Justice Y. R. Pinheiro of Court 53 General Civil Division Ikeja supports this, ruling that the imposition of levies by Mrs. Tinubu-Ojo and her agents is illegal and a violation of fundamental rights.
