Lagos community loses millions to robbers daily

Residents of Ikorodu  are no longer sleeping with their two eyes closed as robbers daily attack residents at night without the help of security agencies to rescue them.

A resident of Ikorodu who pleaded anonymity said “robbers jumped over the high fence in her house, broke in and stole belongings, while my family and myself were asleep. After the operation, they woke me up and wanted to take me away with them.

That was when I screamed and ran away. This occurred around 2am on Thursday morning. They also ran away. In fact they removed sims in our phones dropped them somewhere and carted away phones and other items.

She added :”The incident was reported to the police the following morning but all they asked for was money. No action from them. This Saturday, my neighbour by the left was also robbed. A week ago, my opposite neighbour was also robbed”.

Another resident of Omitoro community in Ikorodu, Ayodele Temidayo, a victim of recent robbery attack in the area  disclosed to Nigerian NewsDirect  that “there is no house on my street yet to be attacked by armed robbers. Robbery is now a normal routine in this area. We are living  in fear”.

Omitoro is the same area First bank was robbed few months ago. Residents of this community are scared of the unknown day and night.

Another resident of Eleshi community, Mr. Toba said, “we have reported to the Police severally and nothing has been done about all robbery incidents.

Rather,  he alleged that the Police  keep collecting a minimum N1,000 per report whenever such is made at the station.”  All they keep telling us is they are short of equipment. Ikorodu government should please come to our aid,” he pleaded

Efforts to reach Lagos state Police Public Relations Officer  DSP Joe Offor on phone at press time was not successful.
