Lagos charges teachers to integrate digital technology for effective teaching

The Lagos State Government, through the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), has charged Teachers in Grade Level 10-12 to infuse digital technology into their teaching methodology.
Chairman of the State Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino gave the charge while declaring open a two-day capacity-building workshop for over 300 Teachers on GLs 10-12 held at the Teaching Service Staff Development Centre (TSSDC), Owutu, Ikorodu.
Mrs. Peregrino disclosed that the workshop is in furtherance of the responsibility of the Commission to up-scale and enhance the capacity and standards of Post- Primary Education Teachers in the State, noting that the teaching profession, like others of its type, is evolving and demands constant training and development from its professionals.
She said that the two-day training with the theme: “Creating and Maintaining A Technology-Infused Classroom For Public Secondary Teachers GLs 10-12” is intended to give teachers insight into the creation, maintenance and infusing digital technology in today’s classroom setting and create latitude to implement modern and innovative methodologies of digital technology in teaching and learning.
In her words, “In the 21st-Century Education System, applying Digital Technologies in classrooms ultimately allows students to learn, using cutting edge mobile devices and the internet, amongst others. Therefore, teachers must be abreast with the current use of technology to facilitate student learning and engagement in today’s classroom.
“With this training, you will have the opportunity to examine and explore different types of Digital Technologies in the classroom and address practical concerns about its usage,” she added.
Peregrino reiterated the determination and commitment of the Lagos State Government to continually organise capacity-building workshops to train and retrain teachers at all levels to meet the ever-evolving teaching challenges in the 21st-century Educational System.
She implored participants at the capacity building workshop to continually search for knowledge even beyond the training if they must remain relevant in the scheme of things.
Welcoming participants to the workshop, the Permanent Secretary of the Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Adebopo Oyekan-Ismaila, encouraged them to channel their time and energy to productive, more dynamic, proactive efforts that will be impactful on the student’s performances.
She advised the participants not to be left behind in the new emerging digital technology world order if they must excel in the teaching profession. She further charged them to be ready to blaze the trail and seek to transform the learning methodology in schools across the state in accordance with global best practices.
The capacity building workshop, organised for over 300 teachers on Grade level 10-12 and held at the Teaching Service Staff Development Centre, Owutu, Ikorodu Lagos State, started on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, and it is expected to come to a close on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, with a communique.
