Operatives of the Zone 2 Command, Lagos, Nigeria have arrested a Lagos businesswoman, Adekanmi Adenike, 42, and charged her before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly forging the local purchase order bearing the name of the management of Animal Care Services Konsult Nigeria.
Police alleged that the defendant presented the Local purchase documents to the management of Lukefield Finance Limited to secure a N24,929,648 loan with the promise to pay back the Loan within 90 days knowing full well that the documents she presented were fake and fled.
Police further alleged that trouble started when the defendant failed to pay back the loan within the agreed 90 days and she was nowhere to be found.
Police alleged that when all efforts by the management of Lukefield Finance Limited to recover the loan from the defendant proved futile, they contacted the management of Animal Care Services Konsult Nigeria with the Local purchase order with No.0000702 for clearance, but the management of Animal Care Services Konsult told them that the Local purchase order was fake and that they never issued any local purchase to the defendant.
Following the development, the Management of Lukefield Finance Limited petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos who directed his crack team led by Inspector Akinbuli Kehinde to fish out the defendant anywhere she might be hiding.
The Police team tracked the defendant to a hideout in Lagos and arrested her.
Adekanmi was charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island on a three-count charge bordering on forgery, obtaining money under false pretence and stealing
Police Prosecuting Counsel, Francis Igbinosa told the Court in the charge marked TA/39/2022 that the defendant committed the offence on 4 October 2022 at Victoria Island, Lagos.
Igbinosa informed the Court that the defendant forged Local purchase order bearing Animal Care Services Konsult Nigeria and used the documents to secure a N24,929,648 loan from the management of Lukefield Finance Limited with the promise to pay back the Loan within 90 days, but that instead, the defendant fled after collecting the loan before She was arrested at a hideout in Lagos.
Igbinosa said the offences, the defendant committed were punishable under sessions 315, 287 and 365 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015
Adekanmi pleaded not guilty to the charges and the Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abioye granted her N1m bail with two sureties in like sum.
Abioye adjourned the case till 21 December 2022 for mention and ordered that the defendant be detained at the Ikoyi correctional facility till she perfected the bail conditions.
