The Kwara Sports Commission has inaugurated 30 sport associations to ensure the smooth running and development of sports in the state.
This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ilorin by the commission’s Media Officer, Mr Yusuf Feruke.
Feruke said that the development was part of the arrangements being put in place to ensure the smooth running and rapid sports development within the next four years.
He said that letters have already been dispatched to chairmen and members of the associations.
Feruke said the association was meant to enhance the staging of the forthcoming Kwara Sports Festival tentatively scheduled to hold September 24.
He recalled that Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on assumption of office, revived the state sports festival by staging the seventh edition in January 2020, after 15 years of abandonment.
He listed the associations to include Athletics, Ayo, Badminton, Basketball, Baseball & Softball, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Canoeing, Chess, Cricket, Cycling, Dart, Football, Golf and Handball.
Others are Judo, Kickboxing, Karate, Paralympics, Scrabble, Swimming, Squash Racket, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Wushu Kunfu and Rugby.
