Kwara Govt screens 102,452 for hypertension, blood sugar

The Kwara State Government has stated that it has screened 102,452 people for hypertension and blood sugar in the state.

The state government added that the move is coming on the heels of the successful implementation of Project 10 Million across the 16 Local Governments of the state

The government commended the people of the state for compliance with the exercise, adding that, Kwara is indeed a state of Harmony.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, gave the commendation during a media briefing with the press crew of the ministry at her Ilorin Kwara state.

According to a statement signed by Gbenga Falade, press secretary of the Ministry of Health, released to the press on Sunday, El-Imam stated further that the project is aimed at screening 10 million Nigerians, including 196,913 people from Kwara State, for hypertension and blood sugar levels. The exercise which commenced from October 28 to November 10, 2024, recorded significant successes, thanks to the cooperation of stakeholders, including the State Executive Council Members, the Royal Fathers led by the Emir of Ilorin, Executive Chairperson of the sixteen Local Government Areas, Office of the Head of Service, Health Workers, ad-hoc staff, the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Christian Association of Nigeria, the Muslim Society, Market Leaders, Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, Media practitioners, World Health Organization (WHO)and other development partners in the state among others.

During the exercise, El-Imam noted that Kwara State was able to screen 102,452 across the State, thereby emerging as one of the leading states to have implemented the project, among the 36 States of the federation, including Federal Capital Territory describing it as a notable achievement.

She expressed her profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of Kwara state, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his support, which has helped Kwara become a top-performing state in Project 10 Million.

The Commissioner noted that it is one of the largest health interventions targeted at adults regardless of gender in the State.

She further enjoined all Kwarans to continue to check their blood pressure and Sugar levels to control the numbers, thereby reducing the high level of mortality in the country.
