Kwara Govt inaugurates Gene-Xpert machine
The Kwara Government has inaugurated the first state-owned Gene-Xpert Machine at Okuta General Hospital in Baruten Local Government Area.
Dr Raji Razaq, the Kwara Commissioner for Health, inauguarated the project on behalf of Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Thismis contained ina statement on Thursday in Ilorin by Mr Falade Gbenga, the Ministry’s Spokesperson.
It said that Razaq had embarked on a two-day working tour of health facilities in the four districts of Baruten local government area.
The districts are Okuta, Gwanara, Ilesha-Baruba and Yashikira.
He explained that the Gene-Xpert Machine would be used for diagnosis of Tuberculosis and is useful for COVID-19 test with the aid of additional gadgets.
He stated that the government would also inauguarate four renovated health facilities in the area to enhance effective healthcare delivery services.
“We now know the gaps in terms of equipment, health workers and other essential needs to make these facilities work better.
“That is why Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq approved our tour of all the over 700 primary and secondary health facilities in the state,” he said.
In his reaction, Alhaji Idris Sero-Abubakar, the Emir of Okuta, commended the efforts of AbdulRazaq for his foresight and ingenuity in prioritising the plight of the people of Baruten in his rebuilding agenda.
The traditional ruler, who appreciated the visit, described AbdulRazaq as God-sent to the people of Baruten, especially with the various interventions being undertaken in the area to make life comfortable for their people.
Also speaking, Mr Salihu Boriya, member of the Kwara House of Assembly representing Okuta/Yashikira Constituency, enjoined the people of the area to patronise government funded healthcare facilities.
Boriya pointed out that the state government had employed strategies to ensure orthodox healthcare gets closer to the people.
