Kwara college provost warns matriculating students against cultism

Dr Jimoh Ahmed-Ayinla, the Acting Provost, Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin on Wednesday advised 1,300 new students of the college to shun cultism and other social vices.

The provost gave the advice at the matriculation of the new students for the 2020/2021academic year.

“This college has zero-tolerance for cultism and other vices such as examination malpractice, hooliganism and thuggery.

“The State Government has promulgated a law that bans cultism in all schools in the state.

“We don’t want anyone of you to be in trouble, so avoid cultism.

“The school will not tolerate any form of indiscipline or wayward act,” he said.

Ahmed-Ayinla described the matriculation ceremony as unique because it was a ceremony that legitimised studentship in the college.

“It is unique because you are the lucky ones among the teeming applicants. I congratulate you for gaining admission into the college.

“Matriculation marks the official beginning of your stay in the college, other things attached to making your stay in the college worthwhile and pleasurable.

“I wish to remind you that you are here primarily to learn while other lawful things that you may do are secondary to complement learning,” he said.

The provost added that the college rules were not put in place to instill fear in the minds of students, rather were designed to serve as guides to their conducts in the college.

Ahmed-Ayinla , however tasked the students to be good ambassadors of their different families and behave decently.

He further advised students to prioritise their academic works and avoid bad companies so as to remain focused in their carrier pursuits.

The provost called on the students to always engage in dialogue if they noticed things that were not the way they should be, adding his doors were open to all the students.

Ahmed-Ayinla explained that certificates were awarded on the basis of academic excellence and moral uprightness.

He, therefore, advised students to eschew vices and embrace virtues.

The provost also advised the lecturers in the institution to treat the students like their children and not unnecessarily frustrate them.

“Don’t harass any student or collect money from any of them. Treat them like your own children,” he advised.

Ahmed-Ayinla revealed that Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration was very supportive to the institution in terms of timely payment of subvention.

He, however, called on the governor to visit the institution and also appealed for good road network in the campus.

“We want good road network in the campus to ease movement and beautify the environment the more,” he said.
