Kwara Assembly passes 29 Bills, 58 motions in four years

The Kwara House of Assembly said it passed 29 people-oriented Bills into law with 58 motions during the outgoing legislative session out of which seven were private during the outgoing legislative session

The Speaker of the House, Mr Yakubu Salihu, disclosed this in his valedictory remarks session on Wednesday.

He stated that out of number, seven were private members Bills.

Salihu said within the period under review, 58 motions and 38 reports from various committees of the House were considered with resolutions passed on them through effective use of public hearings and other necessary tools of legislation.

The speaker described the last four years as unprecedented in the history of lawmaking in the state.

He thanked the people of the state for their support to the 9th Assembly.

The speaker who extolled the virtues of each of the outgoing and returning lawmakers, also appreciated the media for discharging their duties with all sense of objectivity.

He also applauded the management and staff of the assembly for their unflinching support.

Besides, Salihu commended Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the strong support and cordial relationship that existed between the executive and legislative arms of government in the state.

Each of the lawmakers took turn to recount their experience in the last four years as representatives of the people.

It could be recalled that two lawmakers in the 9th Assembly lost their lives; namely Abubakar Olawoyin, representing Ilorin Central (House Leader) and Ahmed Rufai, representing Pategi Constituency.

The incoming 10th Legislature consists of eight returning and 16 new lawmakers, making a total of 24 members.
