Kogi’s approach to security is all inclusive – Fanwo
The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo has said the Yahaya Bello Administration is committed to an “all inclusive security architecture”.
Fanwo made this known while speaking with newsmen in Lokoja, Tuesday, insisting that the State Government will continue to strengthen its synergy with the people to enable the state retains its position as the safest state in Nigeria.
His word: “The state of insecurity in Nigeria at the moment calls for concern and all Nigerians must come together to arrest the ugly and threatening trend.
“As a state sharing borders with ten other states, there is heavy pressure on our security architecture to keep the state in its enviable position as the safest in the country. What we have going well for us as a state is the partnership with the people to keep Kogi safe.
“The people are at the centre of our security success and we will continue to bank on the intelligence received from them to track down criminal elements who might want to test our will”.
The Information Commissioner said the recent attack in Ajaokuta Local Government Area is unfortunate, saying the drastic steps taken by the State Government “has sent strong signals to those charged with the responsibility of securing the people that the Governor will not tolerate any dereliction of duty on their part”, urging traditional rulers, Local Government Chairmen and community leaders to stand up to their responsibilities especially as it affects the security of lives and property of their people”. “Today, the Governor held a crucial meeting with Traditional Rulers and Local Government Chiefs with the singular agenda of ensuring security. Strategies were extensively discussed and the Governor gave assurances of support to them.
“The Royal Fathers and Local Government Chairmen have been very supportive and cooperative and they understand the need to do more. We urge Kogites to cooperate with the Government to ensure security of lives and property”, he said.
Fanwo assured the people of the State of the readiness of the Yahaya Bello Administration to keep to its commitment of securing the good people of Kogi State.
He urged the people of the state to keep fate with the Government and also volunteer information that would guarantee security in their domains, saying the Governor has charged security agencies to do everything within the ambit of the law to secure the state.
He said, “As you are aware, our Governor doesn’t cry to Abuja. He stays here to confront the security challenges. The people of the state have confidence in his administration to ensure security.
“The Kogi model can work for Nigeria. People will sleep on their duties when there are no consequences for such. As a nation, we need to hold people to account. The lives of the citizens matter.
“Kogi has shown example. Those charged with the responsibility of securing the people now know what they need to do and that their failure to do the needful will always attract penalties”.
On the planned partnership between the Kogi State Government and the Chinese Government on energy development, Fanwo said it is a welcome development as such will help strengthen power generation, Information and Communication Technology as well as security. He said the partnership will be of great benefit to the industrial development of the state.
