Killers of Fatinoyes sold couple’s car for N150,000 — Ogun Police
Bankole Taiwo, Abeokuta
Operatives of Ogun State Police command said they have arrested two alleged buyers of the Hyundai car of Kehinde and Bukola Fatinoye killed alongside their only surviving son, Oreoluwa in the early hours of January 1, 2023.
After killing the couple, the suspects got hold of their son OreOluwa and their adopted child, Felix Olorunyomi, tied them with rope and put them in the booth of the Hyundai car with which they drove them to Ogun river bridge at Adigbe area, where they threw them into the river.
While the couple’s son died, the adopted son, Felix Olorunyomi miraculously escaped and it was his escape that later paved way for the arrest of the prime suspect and driver of the deceased couple, Lekan Adekanmbi.
According to statement from the Spokesman of the state police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the two suspects, Azeez Usman and Owolaja Aanuoluwapo were said to have been arrested on Monday at different locations in the state following the confession of the earlier arrested suspects who informed the police that the car was sold to Azeez Usman at rate of N150,000.
The killers of Fatinoyes were said to have parked the car somewhere in Oke Ata area of Abeokuta, but later contacted Owolaja Aanuoluwapo who went there and drove the vehicle to Azeez Usman’s workshop where the car was butchered into pieces and sold in parts.
Police investigation was said to have revealed that the two suspects were duly informed that the car was stolen, but they went ahead and bought it at the rate of N150,000.
It would be recalled that the prime suspect, Lekan Adekanbi, the driver to the Fatinoyes had said that he organized robbery operation to forcefully get money from the late couple after they refused to increase his salary and grant him a loan request.
Adekanbi, who had been the couple’s driver since 2018 explained that he invited two other cultist-friends, Ahmed Odetola a.k.a Akamo, and Waheed Adeniyi a.k.a Koffi to join him to rob the couple.
Adekanbi, who spoke after he was paraded at the State Police Command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Friday said, “I took the step because the couple refused to increase my salary, and when I approached them for a loan to buy a motorcycle, they didn’t oblige.”
Narrating how the deadly act was carried out, Adekanbi noted that he and his two accomplices waited for the couple to come back from crossover service since he had access to the house and they pounced on them immediately after they entered the house.
He added that they had access to the house despite an Astian dog mount at the gate because the dog is familiar with him being the person who always feed it.
Speaking further, he said, having got hold of the couple, they forced the husband, Kehinde Fatinoye to transfer money from his account to the “Kuda” bank account of Ahmed Odetola, but the transfer failed.
“Since that failed, I gave the deceased my Access Bank account to which the sum of N1,102,000 (One million one hundred and two thousand) was transferred at gunpoint.
“When I realised that my identity had been known through my bank account, I decided with others to terminate the lives of the couple. That was when Waheed Adeniyi a.k.a Koffi took a knife from their kitchen and slaughtered the husband Kehinde Fatinoye, while I used sledge hammer to hit the wife Bukola Fatinoye on the head and she died on the spot.”
Adekanbi noted that “while the operation was going on, the only surviving son of the deceased, Oreoluwa Fatinoye, and their adopted son, Felix Olorunyomi walked in and they were pounced on and tied their hands with rope and drove them to Ogun River Bridge at Adigbe where they threw the two of them into the river.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Frank Mba has ordered that all the suspects be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.
