The Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Mr Paul Odama, on Wednesday paid an unscheduled visit to the residents of Alagbado and Gaa-Osibi area of Ilorin to restore their confidence, following reported cases of kidnapping in the area.
Odama said he paid an on the spot assessment to the communities in a bid to assess the security situation and strategy to be emplaced to rebuild the confidence of the residents.
He explained to the residents what the police has done and still doing to stop the alleged incursions of criminal elements into the fast developing communities.
Odama said that immediately he got wind of the complaints by the residents, he ordered the deployment of three patrol teams comprising conventional and men of tactical teams of the command to the areas.
He added that the effort has drastically reduced fear and apprehensions in the minds of the residents.
The Head of the Community of Osibi, Alfaa Ola Shehu, thanked the Commissioner of police for the surprise visit and the speed by which police patrol teams were deployed to the area.
He stated that since the arrival of the police teams, the residents have been sleeping with their two eyes closed.
He stated that members of the communities were ready to support the policemen with necessary materials that could enhance their duty.
The representatives of the community joined the police boss to patrol the area and showed the area they fear the criminals used in accessing the communities.
Odama assured the residents of the police determination to end criminal activities in the area in particular and the state in general.
He advised the leadership of the communities to work with the police deployed to the area by giving useful information at all times and report to him any conduct by the policemen that is at variance with their rules of engagement.
He promised to always pay unscheduled visits like this to assess the situation and review strategies.
Odama urged the residents not to panic or plan relocating from the community, saying that the place is now safe and peaceful for people to live and do their businesses without any fear of attack and intimidation.
